Many of our most loyal guests probably know from our book that – unlike the other buildings in the hamlet – the main villa in Montestigliano was built at the beginning of the 1900’s.

It stands on the ancient foundations of an old watchtower: can see why, given the large panoramic view on the Merse Valley, in the Siena countryside.

The Florentine family Vanni built this villa as a hunting lodge, only in use in the summer months. It became the residence of our family – the Donati – in the 1950’s.

As a classic Italian summer residence, at that time there was no heating, but cozy living rooms for relaxing or reading and an incredibly large terrace with a view to die for.

We’re glad to announce that – starting from 2024 – we’re returning the house to its original purpose: a beautiful holiday villa on the top of a hill in the marvelous Tuscan countryside.

The latest villa in Montestigliano is named after our father Giancarlo Donati, who passed away at the beginning of the year.

A holiday villa in the main square of a Tuscan hamlet.

Villa Giancarlo is the main villa in the charming Tuscan hamlet of Montestigliano.

The facade overlooks the main square – il piazzale – with the elegant staircase that leads to the main door of the property.

On the other side, a romantic terrace overlooks the adult pool and offers a stunning view on the Tuscan countryside. You can have breakfast here in the rising sunlight, with the morning breeze and the city of Siena in the distance. Or you can sip our Montestigliano wine for the aperitif – the perfect spot for sunset lovers.

Villa Giancarlo sleeps 10, in single and double rooms.

The villa is on two floors: on the ground floor, a large well-equipped kitchen to experiment with the Italian cuisine and our Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Two dining rooms – a smaller one for everyday lunch and a large and more elegant one for special occasions. Two living rooms to relax in the cool of the Villa.
A classic Italian staircase leads to the first floor, through frescoed ceilings, sculptures and authentic furniture. Here you can find many of the rooms of the Villa, each offering a special different view on the surroundings.

Villa Giancarlo will host its first guests in 2024.
